Bhutan Re-opening to Tourism
July 9, 2022Yes, that’s right—Bhutan has finally fully re-opened to tourism for the first time since closing in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As of September 23, 2022, there is no requirement for vaccination, no quarantine procedures, and no requirement for COVID-19 tests anymore.
As we talked about in our last post, be aware that the government changes to the daily tourist tariff have gone into effect for all future visitors to Bhutan. This has increased the amount you will pay to visit the country, by approximately 40-50%. For example:
- Group Travel: $350-400 USD per person, per day
- Couples: $400-450 USD per person, per day
- Solo travelers: $450-500 USD per day
You must go through a government-approved travel operator, such as us, to arrange your visa. Beyond that, although it is now possible, in theory, to book your own accommodation and transport, the infrastructure has not developed to the point where this can easily be done.
We’re here to help you plan your trip! Bhutan Trips has started accepting tour requests for 2023 and beyond, so please be sure to contact us regarding your future travels to our amazing country.
